There was a Garden of Eden and there is a Waitrose which helps to make one’s home ideal with the entire gamut of food stuff and other home commodities for our seamless existence, on everyday basis.
The Waitrose grocery shop appeared in Acton in 1904, when Wallace Wyndham Waite, Arthur Rose and David Taylor got together for the venture. Waite bought supplies, Rose managed the accounts and Taylor worked as the branch manager. However, Taylor left the business in 1908 and Rose in 1924. Waite continued to supply to more affluent areas, developing shops called Wyndhams. On 1 October 1937, he sold the business to Michael Watkins, the director of trading for the John Lewis Partnership but remained in the business until retirement in 1940. Waitrose moved onto self service shops and supermarkets. In 2004 by its centenary, there were over 200 shops including the acquisition of Morrisons and Somerfield chains and Leckford farm estate in Hampshire. This was followed by its online presence, branches abroad and smaller format shops.
